My journey of life has been a road of bumps and craters. It was the most memorable journey of my life. I learned to accept my flaws and my own mistakes from my past experiences.

This is how my personal journey in the pandemic year began.

Challenges on the road

Corona virus took us like a storm and consumed us within months. Staying at home, time became meaningless. The friends I used to hang out with, the gym I use to go everyday, the exams I was preparing for all got postponed. My life got totally reprogrammed. During this chaos, I realized the weight of humanity staying away from my home and my own people. The most difficult challenge was staying at home all day and all night. I listened to music, started binge watching shows and movies, tried to talk with friends over phone, still I was bored and frustrated.

Keeping myself busy

Pandemic time was a good time to start new things in life. I started learning new hobbies and some hobbies I always dreamt to do from childhood but didn’t get time because of studies, parents and other things. These new hobbies , made me happy, occupied, optimistic and mentally healthy.

  • I started learning dancing, yoga and meditation: Because gym was also closed during pandemic, I learned dance and yoga at home online. And guess what, I lost a lot of weight and became more fit and healthy than before. I started making my own Bollywood dance videos on my youtube channel. Yoga and meditation helped me a lot to keep my body healthy and mind in peace.

  • Cooking/Baking: I never got time to cook before because of my busy work life. But during this time, I learnt some new recipes from youtube and started cooking and baking at home. These kitchen skills boosted my mood and my interests and made me happy.

  • Reading books/ watching Netflix and Disney: So much to do so many things, why not try reading books and watch some movies later on. The books I didn’t get time to read before and movies on my wish list , I watched and read them all. It’s ok to lie back, having some chill watching Netflix or Disney, or reading your favourite book with tea in the evening,

  • Gardening: One of my favorite hobby I started is gardening. Bought some new plants and decorated my home and my balcony. Gardening not only made my home looked good, it also gave fresh purified air in my home, my mood became more good, with less stress and anxiety.

  • Learning new skills: Yes, I was frustrated with my job because of no work-life balance, less salary, bad health condition and depression. But this pandemic time became a turn over for me. I learnt new skills online and started new career based on my interests. I am more happy now than ever before.

  • Social work: I started some work online, through an app , I became a listener on social media, helping people to listen to their problems, worries, grief, anxiety and stress. I didn’t gave advice as I wasn’t allowed to, I only listened to them. Being a listener to people made them lift their stress and anxiety. I also provided food to street dogs and birds during this pandemic, with one of my friend.

I feel sorry for those people who live in a toxic environment at home, and those with depression and other issues that is making social distancing more difficult. Please be strong and brave, we are in this together. Let’s practice some self-care, focus on ourselves, love ourselves and others, spread kindness around our surroundings and our animals and birds too and heal ourselves and others, spreading more love into the world and be there for each other.
